KITAP permanent residence in Indonesia: eligibility and application review

KITAP is the common name for the permanent residence card; the permit is officially called ITAP. It differs from limited stay ITAS/KITAS, is not granted automatically to every resident, and is not Indonesian citizenship.

Is KITAP permanent residence appropriate for your circumstances?

Eligibility is assessed according to the residence category and the applicant’s circumstances. Eligible cases may include investment, work, family relationships and other categories under the official requirements. Holding a KITAS, forming a company or getting married does not by itself mean automatic approval. The route and documents for your particular circumstances must be reviewed.

Does KITAP give the rights of an Indonesian citizen?

No. It is a residence permit for a foreign national, not citizenship. Rights, activities, re-entry permission and obligations remain subject to the category and current rules. Do not assume it is an unrestricted permit for every type of work.

Is establishing a PT PMA sufficient to obtain it?

Do not treat company formation and a permanent residence application as one procedure. Eligibility, documents and the appropriate route need to be assessed separately.
